Voting Open in May For New ILT Board Member

Only one female has been nominated for the Invercargill Licensing Trust by-election, with five people vying for the new position on the board.

The candidates Louise Evans joins Reece McDonald, along with Jason McKenzie, John Pringle and Lindsay Thomas for a spot in the six-person board.

Deputy electoral officer Michael Morris said Invercargill residents within the ILT election boundary would have the chance to cast their vote from May 5. 

“The election is carried out by postal voting, similar to what we’ve recently experienced with the ICC by-election earlier this year, and the 2019 Local Authority Elections.”

Residents should start receiving their voting papers in the first week voting is open, and have until May 21 to post them back, or else drop off to the ballot box at the Invercargill City Council Civic administration building, or at the Invercargill Public Library.

Louise Evans said in her profile that it was time for change in Invercargill, and she was keen to help enhance the culture of the city.

Local businessman Reece McDonald was bringing with him experience in his role as president of Cycling Southland, and Jason McKenzie has already spent six years on the ILT Foundation Board.

He has an education background and is also a family court counsellor.

John Pringle is a senior partner of a local law firm, a youth advocate and family mediator of the New Zealand Law Society, as well as on the appeals council for the New Zealand Rugby Union.

Lindsay Thomas brings with him governance skills and wants to make local taverns more community and family focused, along with giving more support to smaller community groups.

Voting will close on election day at midday on Thursday May 27.
