12 days of Christmas Marketing
Meri Kirihimete! Welcome to the official start of the silly season. This time last year I launched Invercargill’s first Wee Advent Calendar. Hand drawn, and built online at weeadvent.co.nz, it was jam packed with deals from Southland businesses. All you needed to do was find the right door each day. It was a lot of fun to make and I worked with some incredibly talented people including Transport World, Farm Fresh, Fat Bastards Pies and Seriously Good Chocolate.
This year my little business has taken off, and creating an advent calendar during one of the busiest times of the year, well, it didn’t happen. Instead watch this space in the new year (or more likely, over on my Facebook Page) for something just as epic.
In the meantime, I’ve rounded up 12 of my favourite #12days marketing giveaways and advent calendars. There’s a few from Southland, and a few further afield.
Starting at 10am each day, this 12 Days of Christmas is a traditional one: giveaways every day online care of Invercargill iSite. My prediction is this one will be stocked full of family favourites, and tourism tickets. Get involved on their Facebook.
Salvation Army Reverse Advent Calendar
The Invercargill Reverse Advent Calendar was such a success last year they’re doing it again. Rather than get a gift each day, you’re creating a food parcel day by day. Each day add one non perishable item to your collection and after Christmas the food parcels are donated to the Salvation Army. Join their group on Facebook for details.
12 Pubs of Christmas
This one I love. And I should, I’m organising it. Kicking off today from 3pm, this is your standard 12 pubs, pub crawl in Christmas jumpers. In its third year running, today seems set to be bigger than it’s previous iterations. FYI: I am not responsible for anyone on the crawl. They’re adults.
One for the kids who hate chocolate. Or you know, don’t need it as a way to wake up every morning in December. Behind each door in the Cosmic Kids Advent Calendar is a yoga adventure kids can follow along to. It’s a Christmas Countdown that promotes strength, calm and confidence.
Get 12 beers delivered to your door for $99, and drink one a day to get into the spirit of old Saint Nick. Who said advent was for kids.
Statistics New Zealand
Last year Stats NZ did a cute wee ongoing post for the 12 Days of Xmas filled with Christmas stats. I haven’t seen them post anything this morning, but have a wee read of last years. It’s good.
On the twelfth day of #Christmas Stats NZ sent to me,
a Santa visit to 936k tamariki,
$292 of toys for each household,
3.4m Christmas crackers,
850k deer (not reindeer),
13k electric guitars,
880k litres of champagne,
cheap chocolates in December,
$3.6m of Christmas lights,
$800m of mobile phones,
10.5m Christmas cards,
660ha of cherries,
and the price of a pavlova recipe.
Wellington’s Advent Calendar is an annual treat. Always beautifully designed, and always packed with deals for dining out and exploring the coolest little capital. Possibly the inspiration for my own Invercargill version last year. Worth a look even if you live in the South.
Ok, this is possibly another blog post I’m writing. But gosh there are some good ones this year. And my old favourites thrown into the mix. Follow them on FB.
In this advent calendar you get tasty daily literature instead of waxy chocolates leading up to Christmas. Every day you open up the story to discover the author and the title inside. There’s no identifying information outside, it’s a total surprise. This one’s pretty cool, but if you haven’t already ordered it from Canada, its unlikely to get to you in time this year.
Ok, it has nothing to do with Christmas, is not an advent calendar and I’m not even sure there are 12 of them. BUT if there were, this would be the coolest advent ever. A new piece of art on walls around Riverton in the lead up to Xmas. Check it out today anyway.
If you want to spoil the little suckers, or you’re an adult into both lego and Star Wars (yes, everyone) you can get a sweet lego advent calendar with a new toy everyday to create and play with. Not mad about it.
Mine.
My advent calendar. It’s black and white, and simple. And I love it. Currently on special at Found My Way in Windsor for $10.
